About RCM Chamber Orchestra
Musicians from the Royal College of Music make their Menuhin Hall debut in a captivating programme of symphonies for chamber orchestra.
Beethoven’s 'Eroica' Symphony needs little introduction – widely recognised as one of the turning points of Western music for its innovative form and sweep.
George Onslow’s Symphony No. 1, on the other hand, is a neglected gem from a cosmopolitan composer of English and French parentage who was also popular in Germany. Onslow stood out during his lifetime (1784–1853) for preferring to write for instruments instead while his contemporaries were composing operas, and the result is music of crisp melodic charm.
Since 1883, the Royal College of Music has been shaping the careers of outstanding musicians. Home to more than 900 students from over 60 countries, its South Kensington campus is a vibrant international community of performers, composers and scholars, presenting around 400 public concerts and events each year.
