About Beethoven Piano Concertos 3 and 4
Our special series of concerts celebrating the master of the piano concerto continues with a deeper dive into Beethoven’s later concertos.
Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 37 introduces a more dramatic, stormy voice, blending classical clarity with the intense expressiveness of his emerging Romantic style. Its C Minor key, bold orchestration, and contrasting lyrical second movement reveal tension and emotional depth uncommon in earlier concertos.
The fourth concerto, Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, Op. 58, is marked by lyrical intimacy and inventive dialogue between piano and orchestra, showcasing Beethoven’s gift for transparency and elegance within a mature classical framework. Overall, the work balances virtuosity with poetic expression, combining grace, wit, and the expressive freedom that characterises his middle-period style.
Please note: These pieces will be presented in piano duo arrangements.
