Jeff Wu

Jeff Yunzhe Wu (吴韵喆) was born in China and moved to the UK at age 11 to attend the Yehudi Menuhin School, before continuing his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London on a full scholarship. Jeff completed his Guildhall Artist Masters with Professor David Takeno and his Bachelor of Music with Professor András Keller.
Jeff has performed as a soloist, concertmaster, and chamber musician in leading concert venues and music festivals worldwide, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Centre, Wigmore Hall, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and King's Place London. In 2023, he recorded a 30-minute programme for BBC Radio 3's Total Immersion series, featuring music for violin and piano by Kaija Saariaho. Jeff has also regularly performed with Fantasia Orchestra since 2020, including performing at the ensemble's BBC Proms debut in 2024. In 2019, Jeff performed as a concerto soloist at the Mozartfest Würzburg with Ensemble Esperanza.
Jeff is passionate about contemporary music and its place in the modern world. In 2022, British composer Edwin Roxburgh dedicated his solo violin work Awa no Naruto to Jeff, honouring the legacy of Yehudi Menuhin, which connects them both. In the preface, Roxburgh writes: "Menuhin would have been proud of Jeff Wu, whose artistry and virtuosity motivated the substance of the work."
Teaching has been a central focus for Jeff from early on. He is dedicated to violin pedagogy and firmly believes that thoughtful education is the foundation of the arts. Having seen several of his early students successfully gain admission to the Yehudi Menuhin School, taking up the post of Assistant Teacher at his alma mater now represents a meaningful, full-circle moment in his journey. In this role, Jeff is committed to supporting the pedagogical vision of the school and fostering sustainable, long-term technical and musical growth in the next generation of musicians.
